WHO WE ARE
Hello! We’re Catharine Slade and Owen White – the founders of Help me help my child.
We created this site for parents because, although there are a lot of resources designed to help children, there are surprisingly few that are focused on the specific needs of parents. Most parents want to help their kids; they know they play a key role in determining their child’s future. And they do their best. But parents trying to help their kids clearly have different needs to the kids themselves
So what help do parents need? Well, to start with, they need information that’s accessible and easy to understand. The education system in the UK is complex! Child development is complex. There’s a lot of stuff to know. But information and knowledge only takes you so far. In our experience, parents also need advice that’s quite specific and relevant to their child. General high-level information may be useful, but it’s not sufficient. Parents also need help putting knowledge into action. This is a lot harder than most books and sites seem to acknowledge. You can know what you should do, but that doesn’t mean you’ll find it easy to do it! As parents ourselves, we know parents need all the help they can get and so we’ve designed the Help me help my child site to provides a wide range of information and advice. We want you to know what you should do, but we also want to help you do it.
The name of our site goes a long way to explaining what it is and what it tries to do. If you’re a parent of a child between 4 and 7, we hope you’ll find the help you need here. But it’s early days for us, so if you don’t find what you need, please just let us know and we’ll see if we can provide it.
